Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are one of the leading causes of occupational ill health. Preventing new cases is a key priority for HSE.
Poor manual handling is a major cause of MSDs and employers must protect their workers from the risk of injury from hazardous manual handling in the workplace.
This course will equip delegates with the knowledge to recognise, assess and reduce manual handling risks in their organisation.
As well as providing an overview of the principles of manual handling, this course will also guide delegates through the suite of practical manual handling assessment tools developed by HSE, showing how they can be used as part of the risk assessment process.
These include the Manual Handling Assessment Charts (the MAC tool) and the Risk Assessment of Pushing and Pulling (RAPP) tool.
Additionally, as part of the course, delegates will complete the NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Manual Handling Risk Assessment, which will allow them to formally recognise their learning.
Delegates will be provided with information that will help them to:
This course explains the principles of manual handling and why reducing the risks associated with manual handling activities is important, the most common types of injuries, the legal aspects and the key risk factors. Delegates will study and use the manual handling assessment tools developed by HSE, including the MAC and RAPP tools. Delegates will learn how to control and reduce risk, the key principles of good handling techniques and gain insights from industry and case studies. At the end of the course, delegates will undertake a formal assessment of the knowledge they have gained, leading to a recognised qualification.
This course is suited to employers and employee representatives who intend to begin the process of manual handling risk assessment and control within their organisations. It will also benefit those already involved in manual handling risk reduction who require more formal or in-depth training in this subject, including the use of specific manual handling assessment tools.
A practical assessment is completed at the end of the course. You will be asked to watch a video of a manual handling activity in a workplace and then assess it using HSE tools and templates.
Course fees include all resources, NEBOSH registration and assessment fees and certification (subject to assessment).
Please note: Delegate details will be shared with NEBOSH as part of the registration process.
