There are now many ways in which skin and eye irritation / corrosion and skin sensitisation can be assessed without the use of laboratory animals. This event will focus on how experimental methods that do not involve tests on laboratory animals (in vitro / in chemico / ex vivo tests) can be used to meet the information requirements for these end-points under GB legislation covering pesticides, biocides and general chemicals (UK REACH).
The training will be delivered by HSE regulatory specialists. It will help attendees improve the quality of their submissions and understand how these will be reviewed by HSE as the regulator responsible for approvals and authorisations under the Plant Protection Products and Biocidal Products regimes in GB and the Agency for UK REACH. It will include sessions on currently available approaches and considerations when using them to meet information requirements.
We shall share case studies to illustrate how the methods can be used and the data interpreted, and common issues that we encounter during assessments.
The following topics will be covered:
What irritation / corrosion and skin sensitisation are and why it is important to assess them
The data requirements for pesticide and biocide active substances and products, and the information requirements for UK REACH-registered substances
The regulatory status of different in vitro methods and how they can be used to meet information / data requirements and for classification and labelling under GB CLP
The use of integrated approaches to testing and assessment (IATAs) and defined approaches (DAs) for hazard and potency assessment
The assessment of skin and eye irritation / corrosion and skin sensitisation of pesticide and biocide products and general chemicals (including substances of uncertain, variable, complex reaction products or of biological material - UVCBs)
Case studies to illustrate the practical application of in vitro testing approaches to meet regulatory requirements
